Music Videos on Spotify

Spotify's Music Videos aims to bring background music listeners to the foreground by providing artists with a powerful tool for visual storytelling. This makes Spotify a strong competitor in the foreground and reinvigorates the music video format by engaging fans in new and exciting ways.

As one of the core leaders, I directly oversaw the launch of 15,000 music videos in 11 markets in 2023.

Spotify for Music Providers

When you queue up the next song to play on Spotify, you interact with metadata and audio files record labels send and manage on Spotify. Governing Spotify's multi-million-track music catalog is no small task, but doing so by empowering music providers to manage their entire label operations independently and efficiently is an even greater accomplishment.

This is precisely what my teams at Spotify accomplished under my leadership in 2021-2022, launching Spotify for Music Providers from concept to GA.

Spotify Indie Label Music Uploader

Have you ever wondered how music is added to Spotify? Record labels, artists, and distributors send millions of new tracks to the platform every year. However, some of your favorite tracks, especially those from bands popular in markets like South Korea or Japan, might not be available on Spotify today without the direct uploader product that my team has developed. This product has played a critical role in unlocking content from these regions and making it accessible to a global audience.

Spotify DJ Mixes

DJ Mixes is a new content experience on Spotify that allows creators to showcase their work through long-form music. It meaningfully expands Spotify's catalog, and strengthens relationships with licensors and artists, aiming to position Spotify as the premier destination for DJ mixes in the music streaming industry.

As part of the team launching the beta version of DJ Mixes, I led the manual ingestion of 300 DJ Mixes. I collaborated with editorial, content ingestion, licensing, and metadata teams to make it possible.

Spotify Countdown Pages

Countdown Pages are a novel way to pre-save upcoming albums, which allows fans to see a countdown until the release date and watch video clips from the artist. This exciting experience was first introduced to music artists in 2023 and has since been adopted by famous artists like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. It has led to an 80% increase in streams during the initial week of their album releases.

I closely collaborated with the artist and consumer teams and led the acquisition of the pre-save metadata and assets built upon this experience.

Impraise Goal-setting

YC-alumni Impraise is a SaaS platform (acquired by BetterUp in 2021) that empowers companies and teams to exchange regular feedback and run their performance review processes. However, feedback is tightly coupled with goals, so my teams built a cascading, multi-layered goal-setting and tracking product compatible with most goal formats like OKRs and KPIs. With the release and iterations, we could increase adoption by 430%.
